My family and I were on a mission trip that my wife organized to assist Monsignor Ralph Beiting. Msgr. Beiting has been serving the people of Appalachia in rural Kentucky for over 56 years. He is the most amazing thing about St. Jude Church, easily out working men a quarter of his age. He is into his 80's and is starting yet another project to build a large warehouse to receive the supplies that he gets from all over the country to distribute to the poor and needy people of the region. Really, not enough can be said about this Priest who has devoted his life to the service of God and neighbor. While on our trip I went to photograph the inside of the church when the office worker there asked me if I was there to photograph the "Face." I looked at her with a kind of blank look on my face since I didn't know what she was talking about and I finally had to ask her to explain. She pointed up to the ceiling in the corner and that is when I saw it. "Oh", I said, "I see what you are talking about now." I proceeded to take my photos for the pano of the church and I grabbed a few of the "Face." I later asked Msgr. Beiting about it. He kind of dismissed it not wanting to put too much attention on such a thing but he did think it was an interesting story. He explained that even before the church was finished being constructed, the paint on this one particular bracket that holds up the ceiling beams started to crack and peel. All the other brackets in the church are painted a uniformly matte black as is the left side of the bracket in the above picture. It has been that way ever since, close to 20 years. See the close up below of the bracket on the left and see if it reminds you of another famous "Face" pictured on the right.
